What Is Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood in Srinagar?

The Chrysanthemum Garden Srinagar is Kashmir’s first garden of chrysanthemums and was designed to provide Srinagar with its first large-scale flower destination in the fall season. Chrysanthemums, locally referred to as Gul-e-Dawood or Gul-e-Daudi, blossom during late fall and therefore the Department of Floriculture decided to plant them to continue the blooming season into fall after spring.

The concept of this garden was developed as a fall version of the famous Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden. According to Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the idea was to create something in the fall that was created in the spring. The garden has been designed for almost a year after its foundation stone was laid. The project was developed by the Floriculture Department together with SKUAST-K.

As media reports and official accounts have stated, it has been declared to be the biggest chrysanthemum garden in Asia. This is a subjective claim based on official and press reports, not an independently verified one. What visitors can see for themselves is that the display is extensive, covering 100 kanals of flower beds with Zabarwan mountains as their backdrop.

In contrast to the Mughal gardens of Srinagar, which have a long history of terraced gardens, the Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood garden is a modern seasonal garden.

What Is New in the 2026 Season?

As per the Floriculture Director, as reported by Daily Excelsior on 23 October 2026, there has been an addition of new attractions for visitors and enlargement of flower-beds within the department. These include:

  •  A decorated plaza
  • A water feature
  • Pergolas
  • Selfie points
  • Improved pathways
  • Maple and ginkgo trees planted alongside the existing chinar trees to add more autumn colour

If you visited last year, then these improvements give you something new to come back for. If you are coming for the first time, these improvements help you navigate and take pictures..

Why Visit Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood?

In our experience planning autumn tours to Kashmir, here’s what tourists love best about it:

  •  Colour when other gardens have faded. By October end, the tulips have all disappeared and most summer gardens begin their wind-down process, however, this is when the beds of chrysanthemums come to play.
  •  Strong photography. Roses with Zabarwan mountains behind provide a fine picture of landscape photography, as well as close-up and portrait photography.
  •  A different side of Kashmir. Most tour packages revolve around lakes, mountain regions, and Mughal gardens. This brings a contemporary garden visit into Kashmir in October and November.
  • Easy to combine with other sights. It is located in the same place as Chashme Shahi, Pari Mahal, and the Dal Lake zone in Srinagar, making it ideal for Srinagar autumn sightseeing.
  • Suitable for most travellers. Families, couples, friends, and even photographers can take advantage of visiting the gardens, but since the garden requires some walking, comfort in footwear is necessary.

Best Time to Visit Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood

The Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood best time to visit is late October to mid-November. Chrysanthemum blooms in the month of September up until November in Kashmir as per the claims by SKUAST-Kashmir, but the exhibition of the chrysanthemums is arranged during the autumn tourism season.

Blooms depend upon weather conditions. A sudden drop in temperature, frost, or rain may change the appearance of the beds within a week’s time.

Tips for choosing your day:

  • Go in the morning for softer light and a calmer walk.
  • Visit on a weekday if you want fewer crowds.
  • Carry a light jacket or sweater, because Srinagar mornings and evenings are cool in autumn.
  • Keep some flexibility in your plan in case of rain.

Local tip: If you plan your visit in the first half of November, request us to verify the bloom status of the garden prior to inclusion in your tour itinerary.

Where Is Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood Located?

This garden is situated within the Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden at the foothills of Zabarwan, overlooking the Dal Lake region and Chashme Shahi as well. The garden is located in the Dal Lake region of the city, next to the road leading to Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal.

Entry, Timings and Facilities

The garden is reached through the Botanical Garden, and reports indicate that a regular Botanical Garden entry ticket gives access. However, fees and visiting hours have been reported differently by different sources, and they can change from year to year or from day to day during the season.

The garden is generally open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the entry ticket costs approximately ₹30 to ₹50 for adults and ₹20 to ₹25 for children.

Why Autumn Is a Special Time to Visit Kashmir

Autumn season in Kashmir is referred to as Harud, when the leaves of the chinar trees turn yellow and red, the weather is cool, and there is much peace and quiet in the valley as compared to the summertime. Until lately, the primary attraction of the season has been the color of the chinar trees. However, with Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, there is now a new attraction for flowers to add to the existing attraction of the leaves. As a Floriculture Department official told ETV Bharat, tourists earlier had very little to see in this season apart from the yellow leaves.

For those planning Kashmir in October and November, we can design a Kashmir autumn tour package combining the gardens of Srinagar with other autumn attractions.

Is Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood Worth Visiting?

Yes, if you happen to be in Srinagar when the flowering period comes around and you love flowers, strolling and photography. It is a leisurely site that requires a small chunk of your day.

As it is a seasonal garden, it will not impress you a lot out of the flowering period. If you have planned your visit primarily because of the chrysanthemums then please ensure that they are blooming right now.

Tips for Planning Your Visit

  • Choose dates between late October and mid-November for the best chance of full bloom.
  • Check the latest timings, ticket details and entry gate before leaving.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Carry warm clothing, especially for mornings and evenings.
  • Allow flexibility in case of rain or weather changes.
  • Hire a private cab if you want to cover several attractions in one day of Srinagar autumn sightseeing.
